For the twelfth time in its history, France will take up the Presidency of the European Union, starting on 1st July and ending on 31st December 2008.

The French Presidency will take place at a crucial period for the future of the European Union. It will be the last full Presidency to work with the current Commission and European Parliament before the elections and new appointments in 2009.
